The entrance that runs itself
A car park works when the right vehicles glide in and the wrong ones never join the queue. That is an integration job: barriers or bollards on the lanes, and a credential layer, ANPR cameras, fobs, keypads, intercoms, ticketing, deciding in real time who each lane opens for. Car parks, service yards and managed streets
The same building blocks serve very different schemes: an office car park where staff flow through on ANPR while visitors buzz reception; a residents' car park where fobs rule and contractors get timed codes; a service yard where the barrier holds deliveries to their window; a managed street where refuse trucks and permit holders pass and everyone else reads the sign. The hardware is the rising-arm barrier or bollard; the scheme is the logic wrapped around it.
We design that logic from the site's real user list, then install and commission the lane equipment, detection and credentials as one system, the approach behind the loop-detected FAAC barrier at Searles Leisure Resort and the app-controlled entrance at Shurgard Wandsworth, where every customer carries their own credential. Afterwards the whole entrance, mechanics, sensors, cameras, controllers, is maintained under one documented scope.

What the access-scheme survey establishes
Lanes, users, zones and emergency behaviour are designed together before any equipment is proposed.
Lanes and peak flow
Entry and exit lane counts, peak arrival rates and queue space decide how many barriers the site needs and whether ANPR free-flow beats stop-and-credential.
User classes
Staff, residents, visitors, contractors, deliveries and blue-badge holders each need a defined path, the credential mix is designed from that list, not bolted on afterwards.
Traffic-management zones
Service yards, refuse collection points and restricted lanes often need their own barrier logic, timed openings, interlocked airlocks or gatehouse override, engineered into the same controller.
Escape and emergency
Fire evacuation, emergency-vehicle access and power-failure behaviour are agreed and configured explicitly: a locked car park in an evacuation is a design failure, not bad luck.

1What is ANPR access control and is it reliable?
Automatic number-plate recognition reads each approaching plate and opens the lane for authorised vehicles, no fob, window-down moment or queue at a reader. Modern cameras read reliably in weather and darkness, and the design always includes a fallback (intercom or credential reader) for hire cars, new plates and visitors.
2Can access control work with our existing barriers?
Usually, yes, if the barriers and their safety devices are sound, a new credential layer (ANPR, fobs, intercoms) can drive them through the existing controller or a replacement one. The survey checks the barrier condition first; integrating new intelligence onto failing mechanics is money wasted.
3How do deliveries and visitors get in unattended?
Through a designed path rather than an improvised one: intercom to reception or a mobile, timed delivery windows, pre-registered plates for expected vehicles, or coded access for regular contractors. The scheme works when every legitimate arrival has a route that does not need someone walking out with a fob.
4Do you maintain the whole system or just the barriers?
The whole entrance: barrier mechanics, loops, photocells, cameras, readers, intercoms and controllers are serviced as one system with written records, because to the driver at the line, a dead reader and a dead barrier are the same fault.
