Automatic Doors
Automatic Swing Doors
Powered swing operators for new and existing doors — accessible, controlled entrances installed to EN 16005 with safety sensing, locking and fire-alarm integration.

Automatic swing doors
Automate the doors you already have
An automatic swing operator powers a hinged door — which means an existing entrance can often be automated without replacing the doorset at all. That makes swing automation the practical route to accessible, controlled entrances in buildings where the doors themselves are sound, listed, or simply not worth replacing. Avanti Doors supplies, installs, services and repairs swing door operators across East Anglia and the London corridor, every one wired, set up and tested to BS EN 16005.
Where they fit
Accessibility and control on any hinged doorway
Swing automation earns its place wherever a hinged door needs to open itself: accessible entrances, residential blocks, offices, cafés and restaurants, corridor doors in healthcare settings, and secondary entrances where a sliding conversion would mean rebuilding the frontage. Because the operator mounts to the existing leaf and frame, disruption is small — often a day per doorway — and the building keeps its original doors and appearance.
The reference job is Dolphin Square in Pimlico: five pairs of entrance doors automated with Dorma ED100A operators, each with radar activation, Flatscan 3D on-door laser sensing, slimline magnetic locks and 1000VA battery back-up, powder-coated to match the existing anodised finish and wired to open on a fire-alarm signal. Where the doorset itself has failed, we renew it and automate in one scope — at The Parlour on Bishopsgate a new aluminium double doorset, ramped threshold and full EN 16005 swing package replaced a worn entrance and its faulty operators.
Before specification
What the swing-door survey establishes
A swinging leaf interacts with its surroundings more than any other automatic door type, so the survey looks well beyond the operator.
Existing door condition
Leaf weight, hinge condition, closer removal and the frame's fixing points decide whether the existing doorset can carry an operator or needs renewal first.
Swing path safety
A swinging leaf sweeps an arc through the approach, so on-door laser sensing, activation radar and safe approach distances are specified around how people actually move past the doorway.
Access control and locking
Slimline magnetic locks, keypads, fobs and push-to-exit hardware integrate with the operator so security and accessibility work together rather than against each other.
Fire strategy
Operators can be wired to the fire-alarm panel so doors respond correctly to an alarm signal — releasing, opening or closing to suit the building's escape and compartmentation strategy.
Common questions
Automatic swing door FAQs
Quick answers for building managers considering automation for existing or new hinged doors.
1Can you automate our existing doors?
In most cases, yes — that is the main reason to choose swing automation. At Dolphin Square in Pimlico we automated five pairs of existing entrance doors with Dorma ED100A operators rather than replacing the doorsets, and in Clerkenwell we automated existing steel doors working outside normal hours. The survey confirms the leaves and frames are sound enough to carry the operators.
2Which swing door operators do you install?
We regularly install the Dorma ED100A — a proven low-energy operator suited to most commercial entrances — alongside equivalent systems where the door weight, traffic or setting calls for something different. Operators are matched to the leaf, not picked from habit, and finishes can be powder-coated to match the existing metalwork.
3How do automatic swing doors stay safe around pedestrians?
Modern swing packages use on-door laser presence sensing — such as Flatscan 3D — that watches the full sweep of the leaf, plus radar activation on the approach. BS EN 16005 sets the required safety distances, forces and testing. Low-energy operation is also available where a slower, gentler swing suits the setting.
4What happens to an automatic swing door in a power cut or fire alarm?
Battery back-up keeps the entrance operating through a power loss — the Dolphin Square installation carries 1000VA of back-up per entrance. Fire-alarm wiring is configured to the building's strategy: at Dolphin Square each doorset runs automatically until it receives an alarm signal, then opens.
