Roller shutters are the security workhorse, a steel curtain coiling into a compact barrel, from shopfronts to full-height warehouse doors like the replacement shutter we fitted in Central London. Sectional overhead doors trade the curtain for insulated panels that seal the building, which is why heated and chilled loading bays specify them.
High-speed doors keep busy forklift routes moving while holding the temperature line, often paired with a shutter or sectional door in the same opening. And fire shutters hold the building's compartment lines closed against fire, like the 60-minute alarm-interfaced shutters we installed over live conveyor lines at Alconbury. 1Which industrial door type does my opening need?
Roller shutters win on security and minimal structure; sectional doors win on insulation and sealing; high-speed doors win on traffic flow and temperature separation; fire shutters exist to hold a compartment line. Many bays combine two, a shutter or sectional door for overnight lock-up with a high-speed door for the daytime traffic. The survey settles it from the opening, the structure and the operation.
2Do you repair industrial doors installed by other companies?
Yes, failed motors, snapped springs, damaged laths and panels, doors off their guides and faulty controls are everyday work, whoever originally fitted the door. A damaged industrial door is usually also a security or safety problem, so attendance is prioritised accordingly.
3What safety and compliance duties apply to powered industrial doors?
Powered doors and shutters are workplace machinery: they need appropriate safety devices, competent installation and periodic maintenance with records, in line with HSE guidance and the EN 13241 product standard. Fire shutters additionally carry fire-test evidence (EN 1634-1, EN 16034) and need regular drop-testing for the fire log.
