Steel security doors

Doors specified to resist, not just close

Some openings are simply targets: plant rooms holding expensive kit, external stores, riser cupboards, comms rooms, rear exits onto service yards, and communal entrances that take abuse all day. A steel security doorset answers with a galvanised leaf and frame, multi-point locking, dog bolts on the hinge edge and hardware chosen to resist attack rather than decorate it. Avanti Doors supplies, installs, services and repairs steel doorsets across East Anglia and the London corridor.

Where they fit

Plant rooms, stores, service yards and communal entrances

The pattern is consistent: the openings that get attacked are the ones nobody watches. Rear personnel doors onto yards, plant and meter rooms, external stores and riser doors do their work out of sight, which is exactly why they need a leaf and frame that hold when tested by a crowbar rather than a handle. Communal entrances on managed blocks face the opposite problem — constant legitimate traffic — and need steel's durability more than its deterrence.

Specification is threat-led. Most commercial openings are well served by a galvanised, powder-coated doorset with multi-point locking and hinge-side dog bolts; genuinely high-risk targets justify certified doorsets carrying LPS 1175-style security ratings, and we will tell you which side of that line your opening sits on rather than sell the badge. Where the same door is also a fire door or an escape route, the fire rating and panic hardware are specified into the same assembly — and where the opening is vehicle-sized, a roller shutter takes over.

Before specification

What the steel-door survey establishes

Threat, ratings, fire overlap and finish are settled before a doorset is proposed — resistance is a specification, not a material.

What the door protects

A comms room, a substation and a stockroom face different attacks. Naming the threat honestly — opportunist, determined, repeat — sets the leaf construction, locking and any certified security rating worth paying for.

Ratings where they earn it

Certified security doorsets (LPS 1175 and equivalent ratings) exist for genuinely high-risk openings; most commercial doorways are better served by a well-made galvanised doorset with multi-point locking at a fraction of the price. We say which is which.

Fire and escape overlap

Steel doors are often also fire doors or on escape routes — fire ratings, panic hardware and security must be specified together, never traded against each other.

Finish and exposure

Polyester powder coat or paint finish, weather seals, thresholds and louvres (for plant-room ventilation) are chosen for the exposure, so the door still opens sweetly in year ten.
