Bi-fold gate automation at Shurgard, Wandsworth
Shurgard's self-storage facility in Wandsworth needed secure, automated gates controlling vehicle access to its yard. Avanti Doors supplied and installed a set of automated bi-folding security gates, tied into Shurgard's own access-control app so customers and staff open the entrance straight from their phones. Completed in May 2026.

Secure, app-controlled access for a busy storage yard
What we supplied and installed
- A D6500 automated bi-folding gate system across the yard entrance
- Weldmesh-infill steel leaves that retract fully behind the posts for maximum vehicle clearance
- Feig controller with built-in inverter, driving a 3-phase motor and wormed-gearbox drive at ground level
- Class-leading safety as standard — safety edges, twin photocells at two heights, gate-post emergency stop and a flashing beacon/sounder
- App-based access control — entry via the Shurgard app at the entrance reader
- New concrete plinths, ducting and mains supply, then commissioning and full open/close testing

- Bi-folding leaves clear a tight urban entrance where a sliding or swing gate wouldn't fit

How it was done
The installation process
- 1Existing gates removed and the opening prepared — new concrete plinths, ducting and mains supply installed.
- 2Plinths left to cure, then the D6500 bi-folding gate system delivered and fixed on anchor bolts.
- 3Feig controller and access control set up so the gates open via the Shurgard app at the entrance reader.
- 4Commissioned and safety-tested through full open/close cycles — photocells, safety edges and obstacle detection — then handed over.
