Fire shutters over the conveyor lines in Alconbury
A distribution facility in Alconbury, Cambridgeshire needed fire-rated protection where its conveyor lines pass through internal fire compartments. Avanti Doors supplied and installed a run of 60-minute fire-rated roller shutters over the conveyor openings, integrated with the site's fire-alarm system so they close automatically in a fire event. Completed in May 2026.

Certified fire protection across the conveyor line
What we supplied and installed
- 60-minute fire-rated electrically-operated roller shutters over the conveyor pass-throughs
- Certified to EN13241, EN1634-1 and EN16034 with mandatory UKCA marking
- Single-phase tubular motors, 50mm solid-lath curtains, full hoods, 65mm guides and T-section bottom rails
- Safety brake, battery back-up and key-switch override on each unit, finished in a painted RAL
- Sealed with fire-retardant mastic and linked to the fire-alarm system — 30-second delay with automatic reset
- Limits set, fire panel configured, tested on completion and left in full working order
Why it matters for the site
- Keeps conveyor openings compartmented so fire can't travel the line between zones
- Shutters close automatically on a fire signal, with a timed delay so the conveyor can clear
- Fire-rated to 60 minutes and UKCA-certified for compliance sign-off
- Battery back-up keeps the safety function live even if mains power is lost
How it was done
The installation process
- 1Openings surveyed around the conveyor runs and the site's fire-compartment lines.
- 2Fire-rated roller shutters supplied and installed over each conveyor pass-through.
- 3Sealed with fire-retardant mastic, limits set and each shutter linked to the fire-alarm panel.
- 4Programmed to a 30-second delay with automatic reset, tested and left in full working order.
