A renewed entrance for The Parlour
The Parlour at the Bishopsgate Institute — an ice cream parlour on Bishopsgate, EC2M — needed its entrance renewed and its automation replaced. Avanti Doors removed the existing double door set and frame, cemented in the existing in-floor operators and laid a wide double-ramped threshold over the old floor plates for a smooth, trip-free entrance, then supplied and installed a new aluminium double door set. On a separate visit our engineers replaced a faulty pair of swing operators with a full EN16005 automatic swing package. Completed in March 2026, working within normal hours.

Scope of works
What we supplied and installed
New aluminium double door set
- Existing double door set and frame removed — two engineers on site within normal working hours
- Existing in-floor operators cemented in and a wide double-ramped threshold laid over the old floor plates, for a smooth, non-trip entrance
- New aluminium double door set and frame — non-thermal, with a standard-height mid-rail, double-glazed units and pad handles
- One hook lock to the master leaf and two flush bolts to the slave leaf, with the doors aligned and locking tested
- Sealed with appropriate sealant, internals trimmed as needed, set up, tested and left in good working order (RAL colour confirmed with the client)
EN16005 automatic swing package
- One faulty pair of swing operators removed and replaced with a complete EN16005 swing double package
- A pair of automatic swing operators with SSA standard silver covers, a centre cover section and drive arms
- Activation devices and a 3-position key switch, so the doors can be held open through summer
- Flatscan 3D on-door safety sensors with laser technology — removing the need for separate key switches or finger guards
- Wired, tested and commissioned to EN16005, with all waste removed on completion
How it was done
The installation process
- 1Removed the existing double door set and frame — two engineers within normal working hours.
- 2Cemented in the existing in-floor operators and laid a wide double-ramped threshold over the old floor plates.
- 3Supplied and installed the new aluminium double door set — mid-rail, double glazing, pad handles, hook lock and flush bolts — then aligned, sealed and tested it.
- 4On a separate visit, removed a faulty pair of swing operators and fitted a complete EN16005 swing double package with Flatscan 3D laser safety.
- 5Wired, tested and commissioned the automation to EN16005 and left everything in good working order.
